Why is splitting better than slotting here?
Great question. With this roll, splitting to the 18-point creates two anchoring chances in your opponent's home board. Slotting the 7-point is aggressive but leaves a direct shot — and you're behind in the race by 14 pips.
The equity swings -0.229 because you're giving up the flexibility of having a back checker in play. Think of it this way: you can always make the 7-point later, but you can't un-hit a blot.
